2019 Pan American Games: Men’s All-Around Final

Well due to a little thing called My Job, I had to miss the Men’s All-Around Final, but I managed to avoid any spoilers, so I’m watching it for the first time.

Found the replay fairly easily, so already I’ve won.

Not much of an intro, hello there Robert Neff!

Rotations 1-3

Robert Neff FX USA: apparently “slipped on a tumbling pass”…hands down on a RO double twist!? Noooo!

Arthur Nory FX BRA: split Japanese press, back 1.5 to Rudi, RO double full, full-in, hop.

Apparently Brody Malone hit his first three events!

Nory PH BRA: Tong Fei, sivado, that’s definitely a Wu, double Russian, definitely a Roth, read the pommel COP sometime, your head will explode. Another travel, triple Russian off, way better than Sunday.

Rotation 4

Neff VT USA, kas-1.5, tiny underrotation, tiny step, whooooo just saw his scores, 12.75 FX, 12.45 PH, 12.65 R…14.45 VT should give him a morale boost, currently in second place.

Cory Paterson VT CAN: DTY, off to the side and step OOB, his scores thus far 13.65 FX, 13.05 PH, 13.35 SR, 14.05 VT, currently into 2nd over Neff.

Caio Souza VT BRA: Yurchenko 2.5, step forward and to the side OOB, but he is more than happy with it, 13.6 FX, 12.95 PH, 14.25 SR(!), 14.6 VT, into first place.

Andres Josue Perez VT PUR: last minutes replacement for Daniel Corrale?? Noooo!! Lucky to be in the top group as the first alternate, Kas-1/1, very solid, small hop, piked down but very straight. 13.0 FX, 10.1 PH (oof), 11.85 SR, 13.9 VT, currently in tenth place.

Corrale is fine, just wanted to save himself for EF. Probably a wise move, this schedule is punishing for the men, particularly those who competed Sunday night then had to turn right around and do six more events Monday night.

Rene Cournoyer VT CAN: Roche, big bounding steps out, but huge! 13.35 FX, 13.3 PH, 14.025 SR, 13.9 VT, moves into 3rd. 8.7 E on that vault.

Jostyn Jose Fuenmayor HB VEN: Yamawaki-1/2! Late on Tak-1/2, layout Tkatchev, pretty piked from this angle, straddle tkatchev, huge, jam to inverts, inverted Endo! Great to see unusual skills here, Endo, Stalder, FTDL, piked the second salto, small hop. 13.15 SR, 13.9 VT, 13.3 PB, 13.35 HB, currently 6th.

Reiss Beckford PB JAM: Best uniform to this point, I love how bright it is (seriously, it makes me happy), Peach shoot to one rail handstand (E)! 1/4 pirouette back to two rails. Peach to handstand (D), front uprise straddle 1 1/4 front to upper arms (E), uprise hs, 1/2 pirouette, simple Moy (B) to brief L to handstand, has to show the L to avoid an empty swing deduction, Healy (D), Diamadov (C), Stutz to handstand (C), lower to L immediate “cast” to uprise Back straddle cut to swing hs (B), double pike (D), slight hop. 10.65 PH (oof), 13.3 SR, 13.8 VT, 13.2 PB, moves into 14th, but so much potential!

Brody Malone PB USA: Facing out, free hip shoot to handstand (D), hs 1/4 pirouette to between the rails, diamadov to one rail (D), hits leg on rail on Healy out (D) 1/2 pirouette, cast to move himself down the bars, whippet from upper arms to support (D), 1/2 pirouette, peach hs (short, D), Tippelt (D), collapsed on Healy (D) saved a fall but (-0.3, maybe -0.5), diamadov (C) stutz handstand (C), hop on double pike (D). 12.55 PH, 13.5 SR, 14.55 VT, 12.3 PB into seventh.

Canada inquires Cournoyer’s vault score and it was rejected.

Randy Leru PB CUB, cast up, whippet to support, peach hs 1/2 Turn (E), peach hs, wobble, stutz hs, diamadov, giant to hs (C), back giant to tucked “gienger” to upper arms (unfortunately this doesn’t really have a name, but it’s a D), front uprise hs, loose body on Healy, big break on straddle 1 1/4, double front. Too bad about that mistake at the end. He knows it, probably pinched a bicep on the mistake (or, really, anywhere else in the routine). 12.0 PH, 12.25 SR, 14.25 VT, 12.95 PB, 17th after 4.

After 4th Rotation: 1. Souza 55.4 2. Nory 54.7 3. Cournoyer 54.575 4. Paterson 54.1 5. Nunez MEX 53.8

Malone in 8th, Neff 12th

Rotation 5

Neff PB USA, cast up, slight rhythm break before whippet, peach hs, peach support (B) to L, stutz to one rail (D), Diamadov to one rail (D) to a glide jam L press handstand (C), Healy, crooked on Diamadov, saves it by adding a front uprise handstand (A) so should just be execution, stutz hs, double pike, small hop. 13.4

Paterson PB CAN, jump to upper arm, uprise straddle cut, Healy, peach hs 1/2, a little wild, peach hs, diam, giant to hs, Moy, 1/2 turn, Tippelt, stutz hs, front uprise to tuck double front (E), hop forward, 14.35!

Souza PB BRA, cast upper arm to whippet to handstand, peach hs 1/2 Turn, completely loses control on the finishing hs, peach hs, giant hs, tuck front 1 3/4 to upper arm, Back straddle cut to really low dip between bars, Healy, he’s struggling here, straddle 1 3/4, Moy, Tippelt, double front 1/2 out (F) 13.7 holds the lead.

Perez PB PUR, front uprise straddle cut, Healy, peach hs 1/2, peach hs, giant, cast, Bhavsar! Tippelt and sits on bars, too bad, and sits double pike. Told bad, but seriously, what a great experience for him. 11.3

Cournoyer PB CAN, peach hs, giant diam, giant, Bhavsar, Tippelt, stutz hs straddle 1 1/4, double front, slight step. 13.85 into 3rd

Nory PB BRA, peach hs 1/2 mount, struggle, Back giant, Bhavsar, hand slipped and hit upright with body oof, Tippelt, Healy, diamadov to one rail, straddle glide press, double pike, 13.85 into second.

Nine minutes until EF, I need to speed this up.

Rotation 6

Paterson HB, happy salute, successful routine, no time to go back and look. Replay of Ono turn, straddle tkatchev 1/2

Souza HB Kolman with a break, yamawaki, DTDL, hop

Perez HB FTDL, stuck

Cournoyer HB huge tkatchev straddle to tkatchev straddled 1/2, stuck dismount

Nory HB kicked bar on Winkler, DTDL, stuck wow!

Neff HB layout tkatchev layout tkatchev 1/2, another stuck dismount!

Final Result 🥇Souza 🥈Nory 🥉Paterson 4. Cournoyer

Great job by Brazil, SO IMPRESSED BY CANADA!!
