2019 Pan American Games: Men’s Preview

The 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru promises to be an exciting team competition, featuring exciting teams from all over North & South America.

Let’s get to it, shall we?

The United States

The U.S will be sending a young, untested team to this high profile event. Led by 2019 NCAA All-Around Champion, Brody Malone, Team U.S.A. will gain invaluable international experience, regardless of the outcome.

Malone’s hit ring routine helped win the 2019 NCAA Team Title for Stanford.

Team U.S.A. enters the competition as the reigning Pan Am Championships team gold medalists. Genki Suzuki was a member of that team and won a second gold medal on the pommel horse.

His PAC teammate, Cameron Bock, also won four bronze medals (AA, FX, PH, PB) to compliment his team gold medal.

Bock impresses on the still rings at the recent National Qualifier competition.

The final member of the American team, Grant Breckenridge, will be competing in his first major international competition. He shows clean form and lots of promise.

Brazil

The Brazilian men will be led by Arthur Zanetti, owner of a casual two Olympic medals on the still rings.

Caio Souza, another familiar face, will aid in the Brazilian charge towards the team gold medal.

Others to Watch

Fan favorite Tomas Gonzales will represent Chile with his trademark style and elegance.

This floor routine is currently my favorite thing. Double pike barani out anyone?

The Cuban men, sans Manrique Larduet, will no doubt excite the crowd. Randy Leru, a 2016 Olympian, will be their team leader.

Leru opens his high bar with an ear-popping Liukin (Valeri, not Nastia).

And, of course, you have to acknowledge the awesomeness of the men from Jamaica. Former British gymnast, now proud member of the Jamaican National Team, Reiss Beckford looks to be Jamaica’s first ever male gymnastics Olympian. He will be another gymnast to watch as the competition progresses.

A montage of Beckford’s dynamic skills on all six events.

I’m beyond excited to have the 2019 Pan American Games be the first event covered here at The Gymnastics Den. Stay tuned!
