2019 Pan American Games: Event Finals, Day Two
Welcome back to my humble little blog. I caught the broadcast late due to Real Life, but I did my best.
Vault
Alejandro De La Cruz (CUB), caught his second vault, a super clean Rudi 14.183
Jose Lopez (PUR) kas 1.5, hop 14.4/9.2; second vault, Roche, butt touch, then a hop back
Audrys Nin Reyes (DOM) kas 1.5, hop, excellent distance. 2nd vault, Dragulescu holy wow what a vault, could’ve gotten his chest up on the landing, slightly off to the right, that better be the leader 14.416 avg he’s not thrilled.
Jorge Vega (GUA) Randi, Giant lunge fwd and to the side, great job saving that, his poor right knee, but got the twist around! 2nd is a Kas 1.5, step fwd, good form, lands and stays in bounds.
Randy Leru (CUB) Roche, tucked early, you could tell from the start he was in trouble. Sits but feet did touch first, 13.1. 2nd vault, hard sit on Kas-1.5 as well, just didn’t go for the vault at all 13.083 avg.
Well, I was lucky to catch the medalists at least. I haven’t seen any tweets about crashes or vaulter running onto judges tables or stepping on iPads, so I’m guessing it was a fairly calm men’s final.
Final Standings: 🥇Audrys Nin Reyes, DOM 🥈Jorge Vega, GUA 🥉 Alejandro De La Cruz, CUB
Parallel Bars
Francisco Barretto (BRA), this is a fantastic routine for Brazil, stutz to one bar and a fall. That’s heartbreaking he was doing a near perfect routine. Repeats the skill and holds for emphasis on one rail. Double pike with a hop.
So far 0-2 in this pbar final, these guys look exhausted. Already praying to gymnastics Jesus for high bar.
Justin Karstadt (CAN), rough Healy, crooked stutz hand, everything else is clean, beautiful stutz to one bar with control, stumble on double pike.
Carlos Calvo (COL), Whippet, Healy, manna! Peach hs giant, uprise Bhavsar, super clean press, wobble on pirouette, short double pike, should take the lead? He does 13.833.
Cameron Bock (USA) walks on bars, looks rushed, but a beautiful Bhavsar!! Tiny step on Dismount, is this your leader?? Yes he is, 14.033.
Ariam Vergara (CUB) oof, fall on peach half, HUGE straddle front, double front piked!!! 13.133
Isaac Nunez (MEX), dynamic giant, straddle front, Bhavsar, ooh, very brief almost non-handstand to set up his double pike, but he handles it! 14.433
Brody Malone (USA), last chance for glory, free hip to handstand mount, Makuts, struggle on whippet, everything looks crooked from this angle, small hop, great way to finish 13.533
Caio Souza (BRA) struggle at the beginning, double front 1/2 out!!! 14.366 into second, looks like the Mexican athlete won!
Final Standings: 🥇Isaac Nunez, MEX 🥈Caio Souza, BRA 🥉Cameron Bock, USA
High Bar
Andreas Martinez (COL), hop on dismount, hop full and tkatchev releases, decent execution of angles. 5.0 D/8.233, 13.233
Genki Suzuki (USA), big Yama, tak half right on top, arm bend when he bails for these releases, small hop forward on DTDL, great angles, he should take the lead. 13.800
Arthur Nory (BRA), way short of vertical on Healy, fantastic releases, way cleaner Winkler than the previous rounds, full turn finished out of vertical, great Dismount, if his E scores suffer, this crowd will riot.6.3/8.233 14.533
Sam Zakutney (CAN), Ono turn, no idea how strictly those will be evaluated, some poor form on his releases, 1/2 tak is short, I’d put that third. His 13.966 puts him in second place!!
Rene Cournoyer (CAN), very clean yama, tak-half is one of the better ones, super aggressive releases, Layout tkatchev half, good pirouette out of Endo, small hop in place on DTDL, into the lead? Nory was cleaner but Rene had better angles? 13.833 into third.
Huber Godoy (CUB) excellent tak-1/2, right on top of the bar! And jam stoop to another finish on top of the bar!! Angels are on, pretty big hop on the Dismount5.7/8.5, 14.2
Carlos Calvo (COL), foot separation on Yamawaki, tak-1/1! Tak-1/2 is excellent, so is stalder, big hop back on dismount. 13.666
Francisco Barretto (BRA), three Tkatchev variations y’all, Tak- 1/1, crazy late, possibly no credit? Drilled FTDL! 14.566 WOW! There’s your winter!
Final Standings: 🥇Francisco Barretto (BRA) 🥈Arthur Nory (BRA) 🥉Huber Godoy (CUB)
And that concludes the artistic gymnastics portion of the 2019 Pan American Games!
